Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on helping individuals develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Our occupational therapists use personalised interventions to support individuals in achieving their highest level of independence and quality of life.

Benefits of Occupational Therapy

  • Enhanced Independence: Developing skills needed for daily living and self-care.
  • Improved Motor Skills: Enhancing fine and gross motor skills for better coordination and function.
  • Better Sensory Processing: Helping individuals manage sensory sensitivities and improve sensory integration.
  • Increased Participation: Encouraging engagement in social, educational, and recreational activities.
  • Holistic Support: Complementing speech and music therapy for a well-rounded therapeutic approach.

Our Approach

Our occupational therapists work closely with speech pathologists and music therapists to provide a coordinated and comprehensive treatment plan. We believe in a collaborative approach to ensure that each client receives the most effective and personalised care.

Sensory Profile Assessment

A Sensory Profile is an assessment tool used to evaluate how an individual responds to sensory stimuli in their daily environment. This assessment is used to understand sensory preferences, sensitivities and challenges. It involves gathering information about how a person reacts to touch, sound, sight, taste and movement in everyday life.

The Sensory Profile Report summarises the findings of the assessment, highlighting patterns of sensory behaviours that can influence an individual’s daily functioning. The report includes a detailed analysis of sensory processing preferences and offers recommendations for strategies and interventions that can help an individual manage sensory experiences more effectively. The purpose of the sensory profile report is to provide insight into how sensory processing may impact behaviour, learning, and overall engagement in daily activities. This enables caregivers, therapists and educators to better support the individual’s sensory needs.

Functional Capacity Assessment Report

A Functional Capacity Assessment is an evaluation used to measure an individual’s ability to perform essential daily tasks and activities. The assessment focuses on the person’s physical, cognitive and emotional capacities, assessing how well the individual functions in each of their environments. It involves information gathering and testing a variety of skills which can include mobility, strength, coordination, self-care tasks, cognitive tasks, and social skills in relation to the individual’s goals and challenges.

The Functional Capacity Assessment Report provides a comprehensive overview of the individual’s current functional abilities and limitations. It identifies areas where support or intervention may be needed and helps inform treatment plans to enhance independence and quality of life. The purpose of the assessment is to help guide clinical decision-making, provide insight into the person’s capacity to engage in their meaningful activities and offer recommendations for therapeutic interventions, adaptive equipment, or environmental modifications to optimise their functioning.
